New Love Stories in Strange New Worlds Season 3

Paramount+ has finally released the official trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3, following an extended delay that has seen the series debut pushed back to July 17, 2025. This is the first trailer since an April teaser was released ahead of New York City Comic-Con, which had offered only brief glimpses of what5 to come for the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise.

The second season ended on a cliffhanger with the Enterprise under siege by the Gorn, a series of alien reptiles bent on exacting revenge for an earlier defeat, after they invaded a Federation colony world. The result was that several crew members were captured and taken hostage, along with other Federation soldiers, during a retreat. The final episode, which focused on Starfleet Commander Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), tasked with taking command of the U.S.S. Enterprise, and finding a way to rescue those still in danger, forced Pike to make a decision: stand down and give in to Starfleet5 order, or risk the lives of others to try to mount a rescue operation. Naturally, Pike would choose the latter.

Footage from the series5 third season premiered at New York City Comic-Con in October, offering a brief look at the continuation of this particular story arc. That preview, which picks up directly after the second season finale, quickly transitions into an all-too-familiar signature setpiece of the series: a space battle. The objective in this case is a rescue mission as Pike and the Enterprise crew once again mount a strike against the Gorn and their ships. The new trailer seems to indicate that we are getting closer to an end to this conflict, but also offers hints that the crew will find themselves in danger and uncharted territory.

In addition to facing the Gorn once again and likely bringing a close to this series arc, the upcoming third season will also see the crew once again under the command of Pike. However, while they will have to deal with the Gorn and ultimately bring the ongoing conflict to a conclusion, they will also face a new threat that will push the crew to their limits of loyalty, daring, and heroism. The third season will also find a continued emphasis on a diverse mix of storytelling that will go beyond some of the science fiction action and procedural plots often found in Trek. As outlined by Paramount+, this will also mean some episodes that will focus on faith and duty, as well as romance, comedy, and a mystery.

In addition to its core cast members, Strange New Worlds will continue to have recurring characters return for additional appearances in Season 3. As is the case with the rest of the series, the third season will also see the introduction of at least one new character. Arguably the most high-profile of these, based on the trailer reveal, is Cillian O5ullivan as Dr. Roger Korby, a legacy character from Star Trek: The Original Series who was first introduced in the classic series as played by Michael Strong. In the Strange New Worlds timeline, Korby is both a renowned archaeologist with a particular focus on medical archaeolog, and a missing person, as he has been absent for some time and is a long-time friend of the crew, notably Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush) whom he had been set to marry. The trailer shows Korby seemingly reappearing, and his arrival will no doubt complicate matters in more ways than one, as Chapel has since formed a relationship with Spock (Ethan Peck).

The third season will also feature guest star appearances by comedians Rhys Darby and Patton Oswalt, who will be on hand to bring additional levity. The April trailer had very much focused on this breadth of content and genre, teasing both traditional Trek-style space adventures and episodic, lighter fare and side stories. The official trailer released today also emphasizes this shift in tone, showing the crew of the Enterprise having some downtime and bonding, engaging in some romantic subplots, and even in a few comedic scenes in the wake of a science experiment gone wrong.

The one scene in particular from the trailer that is sure to spark some interest, however, is one where James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) takes command of the ship. It is unclear how this will fit into the events of the season, but it seems that Kirk5 time in the captain5 chair is part of a test or simulation, however temporary, and we get some sense of how Pike would advise a fledgling captain. ldquo;The choices you make in that chair, they are yours to make and yours to live with,rdquo; Pike tells Kirk in this scene.

The final moment in the trailer is also one of the rare comedic ones in the show to date, and it comes courtesy of Oswalt5 Vulcan character and a high five that goes very wrong. After a Vulcan played by Oswalt asks to do a high five ldquo;down low,rdquo; Spock successfully demonstrates and then uses the classic low-five rip-off ldquo;too slowrdquo; move. The other Vulcan is visibly confused and asks him, ldquo;Why would you do that?rdquo; To which Spock matter-of-factly replies, ldquo;Because you are too slow.rdquo;
