Ballerina’s Final Teaser Spotlights Ana de Armas’ Assassin
June 6, 2025, marks the theatrical release of From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, the Ana de Armas–starring spin-off that will bring new blood to the popular franchise in its most traditional way yet. Lionsgate has just shared one last trailer for the film, teasing the final John Wick chapter to be released next year.
As of this writing, Ballerina is three weeks away from opening on June 6, 2025. Based on the trailers and concept art, the film will tell a parallel story set in the middle of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. The third film of the franchise was released in 2019, and it was in Parabellum when Keanu Reeves’ John Wick earned the ire of the High Table after the latter shot crime lord Santino D’Antonio (Marko Jelasitić) on the grounds of the Continental Hotel.
Escaping the massive bounty on his head, John Wick took off for New York City, desperately seeking help to go back for his car. The one place the former hitman thought he could have found allies was the Ruska Roma headquarters, which houses the one crime family he knew would take him in — the New American Irish.
In the third film, the Ruska Roma was led by the ominous Director (Anjelica Huston) and her right-hand assassin, Marcus (Bill Skarsgård). While the Ruska Roma trained its young cadets to be lethal on the dance floor and the streets, it was later revealed in Parabellum that the Director was grooming ballerina-assassins on the side. A young ballerina (Unity Phelan) is seen rehearsing in one of the most important scenes in the third John Wick film, and that character is Eve Macarro, the new protagonist and an Oscar Isaac-recommended de Armas in Ballerina.
The Spin-Off Movie Features Fans’ Favorites and New Faces
Aside from de Armas, Ballerina’s returning characters include Huston’s Director, Ian McShane’s Winston, and Lance Reddick’s Charon, the Continental’s always-on-call concierge. McShane and Reddick’s characters from the John Wick franchise are back, though they are shrouded in mystery. Fans will get a kick out of the late Reddick’s appearance in the film, while long-time fans of the film will probably shed a tear as he takes his last bow as Charon.
Joining de Armas in the film are newcomers Gabriel Byrne, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Norman Reedus, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and David Castañeda. Byrne’s character is Chancellor, the film’s main villain, and he’s backed by a small army as he wields political power over the town where Ballerina is set.
Duncan-Brewster plays Eve’s teacher, Nogi, and Reedus plays Daniel Pine, the mysterious leader of the Russian Roma. Moreno and Castañeda are among the other characters in the film, but their character roles have not been released as of this writing.
Meet Eve Macarro, Ballerina’s New Character Starring Ana de Armas
Ballerina’s first trailer was released in September 2024, and it was primarily about Eve Macarro and her quest for vengeance. As an orphaned child, Eve chose to be with the Russian Roma to finish the one task she committed to — the killing of her father’s murderers.
Fast forward to March 2025, when the second trailer for the film was released, and it is evident that the film will be delving into the many twists and turns of Eve’s journey to claim the vengeance she deserves. Her path also crisscrosses with the Ruma in Russia and brings to light her training with the now late Director of the Roma.
In Ballerina, Ana de Armas plays a hardened killer schooled in her craft by the now-deceased Director. Training young protégés to be the most elite ballerina assassins requires her to hone her skills to the very best in the world. She is quick to pick up anything from any source that will complete her training and give her the winning edge when she finally has her day of reckoning.
What the first trailer established is now backed with a meeting between John Wick and Eve Macarro at the peak of a snow-covered hill under the light of the moon in Ballerina’s second trailer. It seems that the ballerina killer will not be alone in her quest as the two appear to have acknowledged the other’s existence and their shared interest in survival in their line of work.
The final trailer for the Ballerina movie follows de Armas’ Eve staring up at someone holding a gun as the crosshairs of the gun enclose her head. With sharp cuts and rapid movements, this third trailer features a compilation of what was not released in the second trailer, and it was all riveting to watch.
Ana de Armas dances her way through a collection of onlookers in tight choreography punctuated by gunfire, cutthroat, and precision shooting. What is established now is that she is one cold-blooded killer who has the best advantage over her enemies, as she is always a few steps ahead of them.
Her dedication to her craft is clear as the repeated sentence punctuates the atmosphere as she gets further away from her target: “This isn’t done until they’re dead.” Her face during the last scene of the trailer is quite a sight to behold as she has yet another unfortunate victim as her prey, but her eyes are unwavering. If the two prior trailers had you at the edge of your seat, this is an exercise in endurance as the conclusion for the final trailer is simple: if Ana de Armas’ Eve can do it, so can you.
